◆ 국문초록

본 연구는 2011년부터 2020년까지 일본군 ‘위안부’ 문제를 둘러싼 사회적 인식과 탈식민주의 담론의 형성을 분석한다. 2011년 일본대사관 앞에 세워진 평화의소녀상은 일본군 ‘위안부’의 역사를 기억하는 상징으로 자리 잡았다. 하지만, 소녀상은 일본 정부의 역사부정과 양국의 내셔널리즘이 강화되면서 ‘피해 서사’로 고정되었다.이에 페미니스트 연구자들은 일본군 ‘위안부’ 인식의 한계를 비판하였고, 정대협은 전시 성폭력 문제를 중심으로 운동의 변화를 추구했다. 그러나 일본발 내셔널리스트의 망언과 『제국의 위안부』 논쟁 등으로 내셔널리즘이 주전장이 된 상황에서 이러한 노력은 위축되거나 비가시화 되었다. 2015년 발표된 한일위안부합의는 내셔널리즘이 대중적 투쟁으로 표출되는 계기가 되었다.2020년, 일본군 ‘위안부’ 피해생존자 이용수는 운동의 방식을 비판하는 기자회견을 열었다. 이를 두고 언론과 정치권은 피해생존자와 활동가 간의 갈등으로 소비하면서, 이용수가 제기한 논의를 사회적 과제로 발전시키지 못했다. 이에 연구자들은 일본군 ‘위안부’ 인식의 변화와 성찰을 주문했다. 이들은 내셔널리즘의 비판적 고찰과 페미니즘을 통해 탈식민주의 담론의 확장을 모색했다. 따라서 본 연구는 일본군 ‘위안부’ 문제의 탈식민주의 담론이 상호 성찰을 통한 풍부한 이해에서 시작되어야 함을 제안한다.

◆ Abstract

This study explores the formation of social perceptions and postcolonial discourses on the ‘comfort women’ issue from 2011 to 2020. The Statue of Peace was fixed as a ‘victim narrative’ as the Japanese government’s amid historical denial by Japan and intensifying nationalism in both Korea and Japan.Feminist scholars and the Korean Council sought to shift the focus to wartime sexual violence, but rising nationalism and controversies, including Empire’s Comfort Women, hindered broader discussions. The 2015 bilateral agreement further fueled nationalism as a site of public contention.In May 2020, survivor Lee Yong-soo’s critique of the movement’s methods was overshadowed by media framing it as internal conflict. Scholars have since called for reflection and a reexamination of the issue through feminism and postcolonial perspectives. This study highlights the need for mutual reflection and nuanced understanding to deepen postcolonial discourse on the ‘comfort women’ issue.
