□ 초록

통일 독일의 사례에서 볼 수 있듯이, 통일 이후 발생할 남북주민 사이의 사회문화적 갈등 및 가치체계의 충돌을 미리 예측하고 평화로운 통합을 준비하는 연구는 필수적이다. 이때 통일 이후 발생할 수 있는 남북 주민들 사이의 사회문화적 갈등 중에 가장 핵심적인 요인은 가치관의 충돌이 될 것으로 보인다. 향후 남북이 사회문화적 교류를 원활하게 확장하기 위해서는 서로의 차이를 ‘있는 그대로’ 볼 수 있는 상호인식, 다시 말해 상대의 가치체계에 대한 객관적인 파악이 중요할 수밖에 없다. 하지만 북한주민의 가치관에 대한 연구에는 북한주민을 직접 만나서 조사할 수 없다는 결정적인 난점이 있다. 이런 점에서 이 글은 ‘남북주민의 가치관 차이’를 규명하기 위한 대안적 연구로서 ‘북한이탈주민의 가치관 분석’ 연구가 갖는 학문적 필요성, 방법론, 의의 등을 다루고 있다. 특히 이 글은 북한이탈주민 가치관 연구에 있어서 가장 적합한 FGI연구의 장점을 설명하고 있으며, 나아가 가치관 분석의 내용을 ‘혈연적 가족관계’로부터 ‘구조화된 정치체제’에 이르기까지 일상생활의 사회화 경험 속에서 끊임없이 (재)형성되는 총 15개의 가치관으로 나누어 접근하는 방식의 의의를 상세하게 밝히고 있다.

 

□ Abstract

In projecting post-unification prospects on the Korean peninsula, it is imperative to predict the clash of values and sociocultural conflicts which might occur between the people of the two Koreas and prepare for a peaceful integration. The persistence of cultural conflict and values clashes after German unification demonstrated the need for this kind of research. The clash of values will likely be the most critical source of sociocultural conflict between South and North Korean people after unification. In order to facilitate inter-Korean sociocultural exchange in the future, it will be necessary to mutually recognize each other’s differences as they are. This must be preceded by an objective understanding of each other’s value systems. However, the near impossibility of coming into direct contact with the inhabitants of North Korea poses a critical difficulty in examining their value systems. As an alternative, the present study outlines the objectives, methodology, and significance of analyzing the value systems of North Korean defectors in South Korea in order to illuminate the inter-Korean differences in value systems. In particular, the present research elaborates on the advantages of the Focus Group Interview (FGI) method as the most suitably tailored to analyze the value systems of North Korean defectors. The value systems are broken down to fifteen different types which are constantly shaped and reformulated in their daily lives, including, for example, “family kinship” or “structured political system.”
