◆ 초록

 

이 연구는 남북 주민이 실생활에서 마주할 때 일어날 수 있는 갈등을 예측하고자 젠더의식, 특히 여성문제에 초점을 맞추어 탈북여성의 기억을 조사·분석하였다. 여성문제에 있어서 남과 북의 체제 및 지역적 차이는 물론 시간성 역시 중요한 변인이기 때문에 고난의 행군 시기에 탈북한 중년 여성들과 2010년 이후 탈북한 장마당세대 20대 여성들로 조사 대상을 꾸렸다. 젠더의식에 관한 이들의 기억은 대체로 (1)월경 및 임신·출산 등과 관련한 여성 건강과 의료적인 문제들에 대한 의식, (2)가정과 사회에서 여성과 남성의 성 역할, 그리고 (3)성에 대한 자기결정권 등으로 주제가 나눠질 수 있었다. 이 여성들의 기억에서는 여성 건강에 대한 사회적 시스템에 근본적인 차이가 있으며 이에 대한 주민들의 의식도 다르다는 것을 확인하였다. 그리고 북한에서의 가정 및 사회 속 성역할이 변화하고 있으며, 남한 사회에서도 이전의 가부장적 분위기가 잔존하여 두 사회의 이행 정도를 비교할 수 있었다. 마지막으로 섹슈얼리티에 관련하여 피임과 임신중절 문제의 시각 차이 및 특히 성폭력에 대한 두 사회의 온도차를 확인하였다. 이들의 이야기 속에는 두 사회의 차이뿐만 아니라, 한 사회에 머물던 주체가 무의식적으로 그 사회에 젠더적 고정관념에 사로잡혀 있다가 다른 사회로 이주하면서 그것이 깨어지는 과정이 담겨져 있었고, 우리가 접하지 못한 북한사회에 대한 생생한 정보뿐만 아니라 우리의 삶과 사회적 조건을 비판적으로 성찰할 수 있게 하는 날카로운 시각도 포함되어 있었다. 더불어 고난의 행군 시기 탈북여성들과 장마당세대 탈북여성들의 다양함과 역동성을 발견할 수 있었는데, 그것은 현재 우리가 마주할 북한의 모습 그 자체일 것이라고 판단된다.

 

 

◆ Abstract

 

This study examined the memories of female North Korean refugees with a focus on their gender consciousness, especially with respect to women's issues. This analysis was conducted in order to predict conflicts that can occur when North and South Koreans encounter such refugees. In terms of women's issues, the systemic and regional differences between North and South Korea, in addition to temporality, are important variables. Thus, the survey was conducted with middle-aged women and female North Korean refugees of the Jangmadang generation, who defected during the Arduous March. Their gender consciousness-related memories are generally those related to : (1) hygiene and medical problems related to their biological sex, such as menstruation, pregnancy, and childbirth; (2) consciousness of gender roles in the home and society, and (3) concerns about the right to self-determination over sex. The memories of these women revealed that there were differences between the South and the North in terms of the consciousness about women's health and that gender roles were changing in the home and society in North Korea. In addition, the two societies displayed differences in their perspectives surrounding contraception, abortion issues, and sexual violence. A subject who stayed in one society was subconsciously obsessed with gender stereotypes in that society, but the process was broken once they moved to another society. It also included a sharp perspective that allowed us to critically reflect on our lives and social conditions. Finally, we were able to discover the diversity and dynamism of the women of the Jangmadang generation during the Arduous March.
