□ 초록

 90년대 이후, 북한의 구비문학 분야에 대한 연구가 심심치 않게 이루어졌고, 상당한 상과를 거두었다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 현재까지의 연구들은 남북한의 체제적 차이에 의해 형성된 북한 설화관의 특수성에 주목한 경향이 있다. 하지만 북한의 설화에 대한 연구가 ‘통일’에 기여하기 위해서는, 그러한 차이를 부각시키는 일보다 남북한의 설화 연구가 소통할 수 있는 길을 찾는 일이 더욱 중요하다고 보인다.

 그러한 생각으로 이 연구에서는 북한 구전문학계에서 주요한 자료로 여겨지고 있는 〈마십굴〉 전설을 소개하며, 그 서사가 지닌 힘이 무엇인지 고찰해 보고자 한다. 특히 〈마십굴〉의 서사는 심층적인 차원에서, 현재 남북한의 분단상황을 고착시키고 있는 분단서사의 일면을 보여 주는 지점이 있다.

 그러므로 이 논의를 통하여 분단서사를 극복하고 통합서사로 나아갈 수 있는 길을 발견할 수 있기를 기대하며, 아울러 북한 설화를 연구하는 이들에게는 이후의 연구 방향에 하나의 제언이 될 수 있기를 바란다.

□ Abstract

 Since 90’s, north Korean folkore has been studied actively in south Korea, and achieved the desired results. Those established researches have a tendency to focus on a political difference between south Korean and north Korea. However, for looking for a way to contribute to unification, it is important to focus on finding a way of communicating.

 In this paper, the meaning of north Korean folklore 〈A Masip Tunnel〉 which is important research data in north Korea is studied. After analysing this folklore, it is revealed that 〈A Masip Tunnel〉 can be read as the epic of division. In the future, based on this study, a way to overcome the epic of division would be found.
