□ 초록

 현재 한반도 통일문제와 관련하여 한편에서는 민족·민족주의라는 개념이 여전히 분단극복 및 통일을 위해 실천적으로 유효하다는 의견이 존재하며, 다른 한편에서는 이 문제와 관련해 더 이상 어떠한 실천적 기능도 담당할 수 없다는 비판이 공존하고 있다. 이러한 상반된 견해 속에서 본 논문은 ‘민족ㆍ민족주의’가 한반도 통일담론의 핵심 개념으로서 가능할 수 있도록 하는 대안적 재구성 방안을 모색한다.  

 특히 본 논문은 통일의 동력으로서 민족이라는 새로운 ‘환상체계’ 구축전략을 주장한다. 민족이라는 환상체계는 우리들의 실존적 삶에 각인되어 있는 민족 개념을 재구성하여 현실변혁의 유토피아적 전망을 제공하는 것이다. 구체적으로 민족이란 ‘환상체계’는 민족주의가 분단된 한반도 현실이 낳은 온갖 모순을 극복할 수 있고, 나아가 보편가치의 실현과 결합함으로써 통일의 실천적 동력으로서 기능할 수 있도록 하는 대안적 재구성 전략이라고 할 수 있다.

□ Abstract

 In relation to the issue of Korean reunification, on the one hand, the view exists that the concepts of nation and nationalism are still practically valid for overcoming the division of Korea and Korean reunification, and on the other hand, the criticism also exists that the concepts can no long play any function in relation to the issues. In the context of these conflicting views, the present paper explores an alternative reconstruction method to enable “nation and nationalism” as the core concepts of the discourse on Korean reunification.

 This paper argues for a strategy to build a new “fantasy system” of nation as a drive force to generate reunification. The fantasy system of nation provides a utopian prospect of changing status quo by reconstructing the concept of nation engraved in our existential lives. Specifically, the fantasy system of nation can be a kind of utopian scheme to provide a futuristic prospect of a unified Korea, which overcomes all the harms that the reality of the divided Korean Peninsula created and accompanies the realization of the universal value, just as nationalism has been a scheme of emancipation that rejects all oppressions and exploitations in modern history of Korean Peninsula.
